My sister’s planning a solo trip through South America and our parents are freaking out. I think it’s awesome, they think it’s dangerous. Solo female travelers, what’s your take? Is the world really that unsafe for women traveling alone?

Hey there! As a solo female traveler who’s been to 10+ countries, I gotta say – your sis is gonna have the time of her life! Sure, there are risks, but that’s true anywhere. The key is being street smart and trusting your gut. I’ve felt way safer in some “sketchy” places abroad than in my hometown. Tell your folks to chill – she’ll be fine if she does her homework and stays aware. South America’s epic, BTW. She should def hit up Colombia – the people are mad friendly!

Wow, 10+ countries? That’s impressive! Thanks for the positive vibes. It’s cool to hear you’ve felt safer abroad than at home sometimes. I’ll def tell my sis about staying aware and doing her homework. And yeah, I’ll try to get my parents to chill a bit. Any specific tips for South America you can share?

I hear ya, but let’s not sugarcoat it. I’m all for empowering women to travel solo, but South America? That’s next level. I did Peru solo last year and while it was amazing, there were def some sketchy moments. Not trying to be a buzzkill, but OP’s sis needs to be extra careful. Maybe suggest she starts with some “easier” destinations first? Or at least hook up with a group tour for part of the trip. Better safe than sorry, ya know?
